“In the cloud” means more than the people in your household
Access may include account owners, shared users, provider personnel, contractors, integrations and authorities using valid legal processes. Map access, purpose, controls and retention before placing a camera in a sensitive area.
Build an access register

Encryption does not answer the access question by itself. Ask who controls the keys, which endpoints can decrypt footage, and whether shared or downloaded copies remain after cloud deletion.
Questions to answer before buying
- Where is footage processed and stored?
- Is video encrypted in transit and at rest, and is end-to-end encryption available?
- Does enabling stronger encryption disable web viewing, sharing or integrations?
- What are the default and maximum retention periods?
- Are support access and account logins recorded for the user to review?
- Can the provider use footage or derived data to improve services or train systems?
- What happens to clips shared by link, downloaded to phones or exported to authorities?
- How are deletion, account closure and legal preservation handled?
