Use night mode correctly

Night or stay arming should protect the perimeter while allowing safe movement in occupied areas. Test the configuration during the day first. Confirm which doors, windows and motion sensors remain active, and ensure every household member knows how to disarm it without sharing codes publicly.

Children, pets and accessibility

  • Do not add locks or barricades that prevent a child, older person or disabled resident from escaping.
  • Use pet-aware detection or exclude appropriate rooms to reduce avoidable alarms.
  • Keep emergency exits usable and keys accessible to occupants—but not reachable from outside.
  • Choose alerts that household members can perceive, including visual or vibrating options where needed.

If something looks wrong

Do not investigate a possible intruder alone. Move to a safer position, keep other occupants with you and contact the emergency service for the property’s location when there is immediate danger or a crime in progress. Do not rely on a neighbour, app notification or alarm siren as a substitute.

Weekly two-minute checks

  • Review low-battery, offline-device and failed-recording warnings.
  • Test one alarm zone and verify the expected alert arrives.
  • Check that outdoor lights and camera views are not blocked by plants.
  • Confirm monitoring and cloud subscriptions remain active.
  • Remove former users and review shared account access.

Strengthen the routine

Use the full audit to address physical weaknesses, then verify camera and sensor positions around the routes that matter.
