A logo is useful only when you can verify what it covers
Separate the product, installer, monitoring centre and response service. Each may follow a different standard, certification or licence—and one company badge does not automatically cover every part.
Four evidence layers
| Layer | Ask for |
|---|---|
| Product | Exact model, tested function, applicable product standard, cybersecurity support period and compatibility evidence |
| Design and installation | Risk assessment, system grade or class where relevant, installer certification scope, commissioning record and deviations |
| Maintenance | Inspection frequency, remote diagnostics, battery replacement, fault response and who retains service records |
| Monitoring and response | Monitoring-centre approval, signalling paths, verification method, keyholder process and conditions for police or guard escalation |
Membership is not the same as certification. Verify the organisation in the scheme owner’s current public register and confirm the certification scope covers the actual service and location.
Questions for a smart alarm quote
- Which exact standards apply to this proposed system?
- Who independently assesses compliance, and when was the approval last renewed?
- Does the certificate cover installation, maintenance, monitoring—or only one?
- Will the insurer or responding authority accept this system and provider?
- How long will the hub, app and communicator receive security updates?
- What happens when broadband, cellular service, cloud support or the subscription ends?
- Can another qualified provider maintain the system later?
- Which documents will the customer receive at commissioning?
Country routing
Standards, licensing and police-response policies differ. Use the country-specific provider directories for current checks rather than assuming a UK, US, Canadian, Australian or Irish badge transfers internationally.
